Troubleshooting PowerFlex 523 Connectivity Issue in Studio 5000 v32.02

Question:

Hello, I am currently experiencing difficulties with Studio 5000 v32.02 while attempting to connect to a 523 PowerFlex drive through Ethernet. My network setup includes a 5380 CompactLogix 5069-L306ER connected to 2 PowerFlex drives via an unmanaged switch. One drive is a 525 with built-in Ethernet, while the other is a 523 utilizing a 25-COMM_E2P Ethernet card. I am able to successfully connect to the 525 using Studio, however, I encounter an error when trying to connect to the 523. Although RSLinx Classic and CCW software can detect and connect to the 523, Studio 5000 seems to be experiencing issues. I have already tried downloading the latest AOP from Rockwell's website with no success. While there is abundant information available for troubleshooting the 525, resources for resolving issues with the 523 are limited. Any help or guidance on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Are you able to peruse through the selection of 523 adapters located below?

User jkerekes inquired about checking the 523 adapter. I'm unsure what you're referring to. In my conversations, there's no indication to delve deeper than the drive itself. An update: I managed to resolve the blinking green I/O ok Led. By removing the 523 from the project, downloading it, and utilizing the Discover modules feature, it was recognized as a Multi-Drive 25-COMM-E2P. However, I encountered another error when attempting to connect, as shown in the attachment.

Consider utilizing Current Clamp Meters (CCW) for inspecting your Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs).

When troubleshooting VFD connection issues, consider using CCW software to check your VFD's status. As mentioned in a previous post, RSLinx Classic can detect the 523 model, and CCW software can establish a connection with it, although Studio 5000 may not. Make sure you are using the correct Add-On Profile (AOP) for your Powerflex 523-E2P drive, as using the wrong one can lead to connectivity issues.

plvlce suggested carefully revisiting the initial post for a resolution. In regards to the issue, they inquired about the AOP being used, specifying that 'Powerflex 523-E2P' is the correct one. It seems that the AOP being used is for the adapter rather than the drive. Click to expand for more information. Apologies for any confusion.

It sounds like you're having a frustrating experience! Since you mentioned that RSLinx and CCW can detect the 523, it might be worth checking the connection settings in Studio 5000 to ensure they're configured correctly for that drive. Sometimes, the issue could stem from mismatches in IP addressing or subnet settings. Another thing to look into is to make sure that the 523 is running on the latest firmware compatible with your AOP, as this can occasionally cause communication errors with Studio 5000. If you haven't already, also try cycling power on the drive after making any changes, as that can sometimes help reset any stuck communication states. Good luck, and I hope you resolve it soon!

It sounds frustrating to run into that issue, especially since you’re able to connect to the 525 without any problems. Have you checked the IP configuration for the 523? Sometimes, a small mismatch in IP settings or subnet masks can cause connectivity issues in Studio 5000, even if RSLinx Classic can see it. Also, make sure that the EDS file for the 523 is properly installed in Studio 5000, as missing or outdated EDS files can lead to connection errors. If you haven't already, try restarting the CompactLogix and the switch—sometimes network devices get a bit finicky and just need a reboot to refresh their connections. Good luck!
