Troubleshooting Recipe Plus Database Setup for PanelView Plus 7: Tips for New PLC Programmers

Question:

Hello everyone, I’m a newcomer to this forum and relatively inexperienced in programming PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers). Currently, I'm teaching myself while handling a project at my workplace. I'm encountering challenges in setting up a new Recipe Plus database intended for use with the PanelView Plus 7. Specifically, I need to create approximately 100 distinct recipes, each containing the same ingredients but with varying data values. While I've successfully created a basic "practice" set, I can only save it within the HMI (Human Machine Interface) project, although I plan to store it externally in the future. The main issue I'm facing is that the values I'm inputting are being saved across all units instead of individually. Additionally, when I attempt to open the .rpp (Recipe Plus Project) files, I'm only able to access one file instead of separate files for each unit. If anyone can provide guidance or direct me to resources that can assist with these challenges, I would greatly appreciate it! Thank you!

Update: I've resolved the problem of data values being saved across all units instead of individually. Now, my next challenge is to implement a .csv file to generate recipes and units, which can then be imported into my projects. I appreciate any assistance in advance!

User byeager expressed: "I'm currently exploring how to utilize .csv files to generate recipes and units for integration into my projects. Any guidance would be appreciated!" It's important to note that plain text cannot be utilized with the RecipePlus feature, as this option is unsupported. However, within the Recipe Editor in FTView Studio, you can easily select the table grid and copy/paste it into Excel. Before starting, make sure to create all the necessary data sets (you mentioned around 100?). It appears you are working with a consistent number of ingredients across all recipes, along with a single tag set. Fortunately, you can easily copy and paste the data back into your recipe from Excel.

Arlen Jacobs has noted that the RecipePlus feature does not support the use of plain text. Instead, within the Recipe editor found in FTView Studio, users can select the table grid, allowing them to easily copy and paste into Excel. It's advisable to first create all the required data sets—approximately 100, if memory serves. It appears that you will maintain a consistent number of ingredients and a single tag set across your recipes. After preparing your data in Excel, you'll be able to seamlessly copy and paste it back into your recipe. Thank you for the guidance! I was seeking reassurance that this method isn't permitted, but I appreciate your suggestion and will definitely try it. This approach will simplify the updating process significantly. Thanks again!

Hey there! Welcome to the forum! It sounds like you’re diving into quite a complex project, but you’re definitely not alone in this. When it comes to Recipe Plus databases, ensure you're configuring the recipe storage settings correctly to allow for individual storage for each unit. You should be able to set up a recipe for each unit by using instance tags in your PLC to separate the data. As for the .rpp files, usually, they are meant to encompass multiple recipes, so double-check to see if you're properly exporting your individual recipe data. The forums or documentation for Rockwell/Allen-Bradley can be great resources, but feel free to ask more specific questions as you troubleshoot—there's a wealth of experience here you can tap into! Good luck!

Welcome to the forum! It sounds like you're off to a great start with your Recipe Plus setup, and it’s perfectly normal to hit some bumps along the way. For the issue of saving values individually, make sure to check the configuration settings in your Recipe Plus database; there might be an option to specify storage behavior for each recipe. Also, consider how you’re structuring your recipes—sometimes using separate recipe groups for each unit can help keep values distinct. For the file access issue, double-check the paths and folders in your project settings to ensure they point to the right locations for each recipe file. If you haven’t already, the Rockwell Automation Knowledge Base is a great resource, and you can also find some useful tutorials online that might clarify the Recipe Plus functionality further. Good luck, and feel free to reach out if you hit more obstacles!
