Greetings, everyone! I recently switched to a new laptop and decided to test out the simulator for the first time today. However, I am facing issues with downloading it, despite trying various solutions and conducting searches online. When I launch the simulator, it initializes correctly, but it fails to establish a connection with the target module, displaying an error message stating "The connection to the target module could not be established." I have experimented with different PC/PG interfaces, including those ending with _internal.1, but to no avail. I have attempted to resolve the issue by uninstalling and reinstalling both the simulator and Simatic Manager, restarting my PC multiple times, and even attempting to run it in safe mode. I have a professional combo license and have verified that everything is in order on my Windows 7 Lenovo Thinkpad P50S. If anyone has any suggestions or alternative troubleshooting ideas, please share as I urgently require the simulator for this week. Thank you for your help in advance.
To optimize your system, configure your PC/PG interface to PLCSIM.MPI.1 and select the PLCSIM(MPI) option from the interface drop-down menu within the PLCSIM software.
Sigmadelta recommended configuring your PC/PG interface to PLCSIM.MPI.1 and selecting the interface drop-down option within PLCSIM to PLCSIM(MPI). However, it appears that the option with _internal.1 is not available in the drop-down menu.
Would you mind sharing a screenshot of your PG/PC interface and PLCSIM window? This would help provide a clearer picture of the setup.
Are you unsure whether to use Windows 7 in 32-bit or 64-bit? Additionally, which edition of STEP 7 and PLCSIM should be used?
sigmadelta inquired about the compatibility of Windows 7 with STEP 7 and PLCSIM, specifying the preferred 64-bit version. The recommended versions are Step7 5.5 SP4 and Simulator 5.4 SP5 UPDATE 2. Attachments include relevant images for reference.
Hi there! Your issue seems to be quite complex, but let's try to sort it out. Given that you've tried most of the conventional methods with no luck, I suggest you check your laptop's firewall settings. Sometimes, the firewall may prevent connections to external modules, especially in professional software and can cause the issue you're facing. Altering the firewall setting to allow your simulator should help fix this issue. You could also double-check the COM port settings as an incorrect configuration can also lead to similar problems. Hope this helps, and take care!
Hello! It sounds like you've been through a lot in trying to get your simulator working. If you haven't sorted this out yet, I suggest checking the firewall settings on your laptop. Sometimes, firewall settings might prevent the simulator from establishing a connection with the target module. Also, try to check the compatibility of your simulator software with Windows 7. It may need an update or a patch for compatibility issues. Last but not least, inspect if there might be an IP conflict between your system and the target module. Keep us updated on your progress. Best of luck!
It sounds like you've covered a lot of potential solutions already, so kudos on the troubleshooting. This may sound bit obvious, but have you checked your firewall settings? Sometimes, specific applications or connections are blocked without one realizing. You might have to manually add an exception for your simulator. Also, have you tried running the simulator as an admin? Some programs require additional permissions that they might not prompt you for. Lastly, ensure all your drivers are up to date, this can often be an overlooked cause for connectivity issues. Don't lose hope, connectivity issues can be tricky but once they are figured out, your simulator will be up and running perfectly! Good luck!
