Hello everyone, I am currently experiencing difficulties adding an Ethernet module to my project in Studio500 version 34. The equipment in question is a Fredericks Televac EthernetIP MX gateway utilized for communication with vacuum gauges. I downloaded and installed the EDS file provided by the manufacturer with administrative rights. The installation was successful and I can locate the gateway in RS Linx. Using the manufacturer's ipconfig tool, I assigned the desired IP address to the gateway without any issues. However, when I try to add the new Ethernet module in Studio5000 by right-clicking on A1 Ethernet in the Controller Organizer panel, selecting new module, and choosing "Fredericks EthernetIP MX", the program crashes after a 15-20 second loading period. I have reached out to the manufacturer for an updated EDS file, but even after trying it, the issue persists. It seems like the problem might be on my end. I have previously worked on projects using the same device and encountered crashes when trying to access module properties in those projects. Even exporting the module from an older project and importing it into the current one resulted in the same crash. Any assistance on this matter would be highly appreciated.
Is there a generic ethernet option offered by the vendor that allows you to customize Input, Output, and Config sizes as well as instances? If Studio is crashing on older configured instances, it may indicate corruption within your Studio instance. Try using it on a different computer running Studio to troubleshoot the issue.
I have encountered a similar problem with a Pepperl & Fuchs ICE11 io link master. While I can easily add other modules, the issue persists. This problem occurred while using version 32.12, and persists in the latest versions, V33 and V34, when creating new projects.
Don't forget to stay updated with the latest RA software by utilizing RA's monthly patch utility. The January 2024 patch is now available for download.
When trying to install, Rockwell's Automation Device Wizard issued numerous warnings regarding the EDS file from the Frederick website. Despite this, I successfully managed to install a device in Studio v34 by utilizing the MX200 eds file. This process involved overcoming warnings and utilizing the appropriate EDS file for the installation.
Yesterday, I installed the January 2024 patches in hopes of resolving the issue, but unfortunately, it did not help. The original EDS file obtained from Fredericks' website triggered approximately 47 warnings during the installation process. However, the updated file they provided installed smoothly without any issues. I plan to test this on another computer to determine if the problem is specific to my Studio installation. Interestingly, I can add other Ethernet modules without any complications, suggesting that the issue is isolated to the Fredericks module. An update: I successfully added the module on a different PC running Studio, indicating that I may need to reinstall it on my original computer.
Hi there, it sounds like you've done an extensive diagnosis already β kudos to you! This issue might be a compatibility problem between your Studio5000 version and the EDS file given. Have you isolated other potential issues by trying to run the program on another computer or reinstalling Studio5000? Furthermore, it could be, though unlikely, a network error. Might be a preferred tactic if you have static IP addresses to try a different one or ensure that the IP adress you've assigned isn't being used anywhere else. Have you also tried creating a new project entirely instead of importing from an older one? This might do the trick. If everything fails, I'd consider reaching out directly to Rockwell Automation for support since they are the developers of Studio5000.
It sounds like youβre facing quite a challenge with that integration! Since you mentioned the program crashing when adding the module, have you tried running Studio5000 in compatibility mode or checking for any updates to the software itself? Sometimes, specific versions can have bugs that are resolved in later updates. Additionally, ensure that your system's drivers are up to date, especially the network drivers, as they can sometimes cause conflicts. If it continues to crash, you might also want to check the event viewer after a crash for any error messages that could give you a clue on what's going wrong. Good luck!
It sounds like you've done quite a bit of troubleshooting already! Since you've been able to see the module in RS Linx without issues, it's definitely strange that Studio5000 is crashing when you try to add it. Have you checked if there are any updates or patches available for Studio5000? Sometimes software updates can fix bugs related to specific modules. Also, consider trying to run Studio5000 as an administrator or even reinstalling it to rule out any corruption in the installation itself. You might also want to look at your system's event logs after a crash to see if there are any error messages that could provide more clues. Don't lose hope; these types of issues can be tricky but often have a solution!
