Troubleshooting Unable to Open Physical File Error in FactoryTalk Studio 10 After Upgrading from Version 9.0

Question:

Hello everyone, I recently upgraded my FTV Studio (ME) from version 9.0 to version 10.0 on my Windows 7 64-bit laptop. Now, when I attempt to open a file, I receive a notification that it will convert from version 9.0 to 10.0. I clicked “OK,” and the loading process begins, displaying the progress on the tree view. However, it ultimately fails, showing an error message stating "unable to open the physical file." Has anyone else encountered this issue before? Thank you, Stu

It seems you're encountering an "access denied" error message, which is unusual for accessing a public folder. To resolve this issue, I recommend two troubleshooting steps: First, configure the FactoryTalk View Studio ME executable to run with administrator privileges. Second, adjust the User Account Control (UAC) settings to the lowest level. These actions may help you regain access to the folder.

I encountered the same issue with all three files I attempted to open. To resolve the problem, I backed up the original data and subsequently restored the APA file; thankfully, it is functioning properly now. Quite strange, but I appreciate your help, Stu!
