Troubleshooting VNC Server Configuration on PanelView Performance - Password Format and Configuration Issues

Question:

Hello everyone, I recently set up a new 2711P-T19C22DP unit that required firmware version 12 for proper functioning. After finally installing the firmware, I was able to run my application successfully. However, I encountered some issues with remote access through the VNC server. Firstly, there seems to be a problem related to the operating system change to something like Windows 10 or 11. I noticed that there is no option to set a password for the VNC server. Secondly, despite trying different passwords, I continuously receive an error message stating that "at least one of the passwords is invalid," with no indication of the required number of characters. Additionally, when attempting to connect using a VNC viewer, I encounter another error indicating that the VNC server is not properly configured. Routeco, the vendor from whom we purchased the unit, suggested reaching out to Rockwell for assistance. However, my search on the knowledge base did not yield any helpful results. I came across a manual for an earlier OS which mentioned a password format of 7 characters, but that did not work either. If anyone has insights on the correct password format or any solutions to the VNC server configuration issue, I would greatly appreciate the assistance.

Andrew Hardy recently shared his experience with configuring a new 2711P-T19C22DP, which required firmware V12 for installation. Despite successfully getting the application up and running, he encountered a couple of issues with remote access via the VNC server. A major challenge arose when the operating system was changed to Windows 10 (or 11), as there was no option to set a password for the VNC server. Additionally, inputting password commands resulted in an error message stating "at least one of the passwords is invalid," without providing any specific password criteria. Attempts to connect using a VNC viewer were met with another error message indicating that the VNC server was not properly configured. While seeking assistance from the supplier, Routeco, proved unfruitful, Andrew turned to the Rockwell platform for guidance but found no answers in the knowledge base. Despite referencing a manual for an earlier OS suggesting a 7-character password format, his attempts proved unsuccessful. Eventually, he discovered that enabling "Ping response" allowed access with a 7-character password, while disabling it caused the connection to fail. This brings up the question: what is the correct password format for remote access via the VNC server?

One common issue reported by users is the lack of a check box to configure VNC settings in the new operating system. Instead, there is a drop-down list that allows users to select either View Only or Full Control, and enter the corresponding password. It is worth noting that unlike other password fields, there is no requirement to enter the password a second time for confirmation. Another issue users encounter is receiving an "At Least One of the Passwords is Invalid" message when setting up VNC. Typically, VNC passwords are limited to either seven or eight characters, depending on the platform. In older models, a blank password was acceptable for View Only connections, but this is no longer the case. Once the password is configured correctly, users should be able to connect to the VNC client without any problems. It is also worth mentioning that enabling Ping response is not necessary for using VNC.
