Troubleshooting Wonderware: Animated objects with anchor symbols not opening - Simple solution needed

Question:

I haven't used Wonderware (WW) in years and am now attempting to transfer an older project to a different Human-Machine Interface (HMI) system. To troubleshoot, I restored a backup on a spare PC at my workbench. However, I encountered an issue where some animated objects with anchor symbols do not open when double-clicked. These objects are not recognized as cells or symbols, leaving me puzzled. Is there a simple solution to this problem that I am overlooking?

Including a picture could be beneficial in identifying the issue. If you do not have the necessary DLL installed on your computer, the ActiveX object may appear broken. Normally, a warning window will prompt you if this is the case. With over 20 years of experience in web development, I am not familiar with the term "anchor" in this context.

Which version of InTouch is being used? What is the project type identified by InTouch (Standalone, Modern, Managed, Published)? Was the restoration done by copying a folder or using an *.AAPKG file? The anchor icon suggests it may be an Archestra Graphic. If the application is Managed, Modern, or Published, it may contain Archestra Graphics embedded within. It is recommended to back up and restore these types of applications using *.AAPKG files.

I used the installation CD labeled as 10.1 with Service Pack 3 to restore the system by directing it to a specific folder. It appears that this issue is connected to Archestra, as there is a \ArchestrASymbols sub-folder present in the system.

I successfully obtained the development license for the runtime machine and can now access WindowMaker. However, I am still experiencing difficulties with the "locked" symbols. Unfortunately, a previous development machine has stopped working. Any recommendations for resolving this issue?

Can you please provide a screenshot of the project in question within the main InTouch software, excluding WindowMaker or WindowViewer? This will help us visualize and address any issues that may arise.

It sounds like a frustrating situation! One thing you might want to check is whether the anchor symbols are properly linked to their respective animations or scripts, as sometimes their connections can get lost during backups or on newer versions. Also, consider looking at the properties of those objects to ensure they’re set to be editable; sometimes, they can be inadvertently locked. Lastly, if compatibility is an issue between different software versions, running updates or patches on the software might help restore functionality. Good luck with the transition!

It sounds like you're dealing with a classic issue that can happen when transitioning projects between different versions or setups in Wonderware. One thing to check is whether the objects in question were custom symbols or if they rely on specific libraries that might not have been restored correctly. You might want to explore the symbol definitions in the original project and ensure they’re still accessible in your backup; sometimes, the references can break during restores. If that's not the case, consider using the "Find" function in the development environment to trace the symbols and see if they're just hidden or not properly imported. It can also help to look into the project’s shared and global properties to make sure everything is set up correctly. Good luck!

It sounds like you're dealing with a classic compatibility issue that sometimes pops up when transferring projects between different versions or setups in Wonderware. Have you checked whether the animations or custom scripts associated with those objects are still linked correctly after restoring the backup? Sometimes, missing libraries or references can cause those issues. Also, ensure that the project settings match the original configuration, as discrepancies there can lead to unexpected behavior with the HMI objects. If all else fails, you might try recreating those animated objects from scratch, which can sometimes resolve underlying problems. Good luck!
