Upgrade your Reciprocating Air Compressor Filtration System: Seeking Recommendations

Question:

| See the attached images of our 2-stage double-acting reciprocating air compressors that supply plant air to our complex. The panel type filters currently installed need to be replaced in 2 months. I am seeking recommendations for a suitable filtration system for these compressors. Technical data includes a capacity of 2500 m3/hr and a discharge pressure of 7.2 kg/cm2. Your input is greatly appreciated.

Have you reached out to the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) for their expert recommendation?

We have had to source filters from another vendor since the design of the OEM filters became obsolete long ago. The current vendor is not assisting with any modifications, only selling their products.

Is the original equipment manufacturer still in operation? Can you provide the manufacturing year of this equipment? It is likely that a replacement for the outdated filter design is available, correct?

The compressors in question are over two decades old and have a poorly maintained filter history, prompting a need for modifications to their current design. We are seeking recommendations for manufacturers specializing in reciprocating compressor filtration to assist with this upgrade.

My previous plant used a centrifugal air compressor with a built-in air filtering system from the OEM IHI/Mitsubishi. If you need to contact them, you can easily find their information online.

I'd suggest looking into centrifugal separators as they are excellent for bulk moisture removal. For oil and particle removal, consider a high-efficiency coalescing filter. However, keep in mind that your selection should depend on the compressor's environment and the purity level demanded by the processes fed by these compressors. You may want to specifically consider filters rated for 2500 m3/hr flow rates and relatively high pressure tolerance.

Considering the specifications you provided, you might want to look into high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filters, as they can trap a large number of very small particles that other vacuum cleaners would simply recirculate back into the air of your complex. Additionally, since it seems like you have pretty high-capacity needs, pleated filters may be a good option because they provide a larger surface area to capture more particles. Make sure to check compatibility with your compressor's model and operating conditions.
