User Reviews Needed for LV Circuit Breaker and Overload Relay Test Equipment

Question:

Hello, as we strive for continuous improvement in the reliability of our electrical switchgear, we are devising a plan to test our LV circuit breakers and overload relays on specific equipment. In my research online, I came across the Megger MS-2A and other models that seem to meet our requirements. Are any of you currently using this product? I am interested in hearing user reviews of this product and any others relevant to the same purpose. Your insights would be greatly appreciated. Please note that I am not trying to promote any specific products or brands. Thank you for your input. Best regards, Jignesh.

I haven't had a chance to try out the latest models yet, but it's exciting to see how Megger keeps improving their products every few years. I believe all their products are top-notch. I remember starting out with the classic black box and hand-cranking it. It's nice to see the advancements over the years. Also, it's refreshing not to see as many posts about turbines - they're becoming a bit outdated.

Thank you for responding. Just to clarify, I wasn't inquiring about a megger, but rather about equipment produced by the Megger company. Any reviews or information on this equipment would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I quickly skimmed over that. It appears to be an industry-standard unit. We mainly relied on the Fluke model for our weekly standby generator power quality checks. However, when I visited the Fluke site, I noticed that the model we used is no longer listed. It seems like they may have updated it after four years. Nevertheless, I have always been impressed by Fluke's reliability and their meters consistently exceed my expectations.

Hi Jignesh, it sounds like you're doing some rigorous work to maintain your systems - good job! I can share something from our experience. We have been using the Megger MS-2A for about two years now. It's a reliable unit with accurate results, and we haven't run into any major issues at all. The digital interface is pretty user-friendly and the construction is robust, but bear in mind it's at the top of the price range. We've also used ABB's circuit breaker testers in the past, which performed well and may be a more economical choice. I suppose it really depends on your budget and specific needs. Hope that helps!

Hello Jignesh, good to see that you're proactive in ensuring the reliability of your switchgear. I've been using the Megger MS-2A for a little over a year now, and I can vouch for its reliability and accuracy. It's quite user-friendly too, with intuitive controls making it easy for beginners to navigate. However, I've also had good experience with the ABB DDA testing kit, as it provides detailed diagnostic data whilst remaining robust. It might be worth looking into if you need advanced functionalities. Just remember that the choice of equipment ultimately depends on your specific needs, budget and comfort level. Good luck with your tests.

Hi Jignesh, we utilize the Megger MS-2A in our facility and so far, it’s shown quite robust and reliable performance for testing our LV circuit breakers and relays. The user interface is quite intuitive which makes it easier for our technicians. Although it may seem a bit pricey, the features, accuracy and brand reputation add tremendous value. Aside from the Megger series, we've also heard good things about the Fluke 925 Impedance Meter, although we've not personally tried it yet. Ensure you're considering factors such as the nature of your loads, the frequency of the tests, and any specific regulations you need to comply with when you make your choice. I hope this helps!

Hi Jignesh, I have been using the Megger MS-2A for a couple of years now and I must say it has been quite reliable. It provides accurate measurements consistently and, as a bonus, it's also fairly easy to use. However, keep in mind that testing electrical equipment goes beyond picking the right circuit breaker analyzer. Regular maintenance checks, proper scheduling, and associated safety measures are also critical. You might also want to consider getting a power quality analyzer for a complete diagnosis of your system's performance. Hope this helps!
