When to Replace Battery in PLC Power Supply: Understanding BATT1F Indicator Signaling

Question:

After experiencing three shutdowns, we decided to replace the battery in our PLC power supply. When the BATT1F indicator turns amber, is this a warning signal? And when it turns red, does it mean the battery needs to be replaced? I am more versed in Rockwell's Rslogix 500 and 5000, but we also have a few Siemens PLCs. Our PLC is installed on a German machine for which we do not have access to the software. Any assistance you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

The maintenance technician shared that they recently replaced the battery in their PLC power supply after experiencing three shutdowns. They noticed that when the BATT1F indicator turns amber, it serves as a warning, and when it turns red, it indicates that the battery needs to be replaced. The technician typically works with Rockwell Rslogix 500 and 5000, but has limited experience with Siemens PLCs. The PLC is integrated into a German machine, and access to its software is restricted. Despite the multiple shutdowns, the program remained intact. Any insights or advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Just a quick note that we were able to retain the program even after shutting the PLC down three times for approximately 20 minutes each time. This highlights the program's resilience and our successful troubleshooting efforts.

Do you know the current setting of the battery switch? Although I didn't check the manual, I vaguely recall that the switch can be set for one battery or two. If you swap the positions of the batteries, does the light alter its color? I can't recall if there is a specific LED color, just off or possibly red.

We appreciate your assistance.
