Where to Find Missing EDS Files for RSLinx?

Question:

I was under the impression that a yellow question mark signifies a missing EDS file. However, despite seeing one in the Properties, I am unable to locate a specific EDS file for download for this module. The Rockwell Automation website does not have any available EDS files for download. Where can I find these elusive files?

Top Replies

To easily upload Eds from the module, simply right click on the module interface. Many modules offer this convenient feature for seamless integration.

Have you downloaded the Aspect-Oriented Programming (AOP) tool yet?

I was surprised to find that the right-click option I was looking for is not available. Does Linx have the EDS file needed for AOP?

TheWaterboy noted that the right-click option does not seem to be available as anticipated. This pertains to Linx, and I am curious if AOP has the EDS file. Click to expand for more information. Yup.

In hindsight, I should have been more aware of that, but I let my contentment cloud my judgment, assuming everything was in place.

I've encountered this before as well. Sometimes the EDS files that you're looking for are integrated into the device or module itself instead of being separately downloadable. You can often extract them using the EDS Hardware Installation Tool in RSLogix 5000. It may be worth trying that if you haven't already. If that still doesn't work, reaching out to Rockwell Automation's customer support might be your best bet. They're usually pretty helpful with these sorts of issues.

It indeed sounds like a frustrating situation you're in. You're correct that a yellow question mark generally indicates a missing EDS file. If you can't find the specific EDS file for your module on the Rockwell Automation website, you might want to consider contacting their technical support. They can often provide more immediate help and could potentially send the file you require directly. Another avenue might be checking out independent forums or reaching out to your network of professionals who might have encountered a similar problem. Hope you get the file soon!

I totally understand your frustration with the missing EDS files. Sometimes, they’re not immediately accessible on the Rockwell Automation site, but you might want to check user forums or communities dedicated to Allen-Bradley products—often, other users share links or resources. You could also try reaching out to Rockwell’s support directly; they might be able to provide the specific file or point you in the right direction. Good luck!

It can be really frustrating when you're dealing with those yellow question marks! If the Rockwell Automation site doesn’t have the EDS files you need, it might be worth checking third-party resources or forums where other users share files or links. Also, consider reaching out to Rockwell's support directly; they can sometimes provide files that aren’t publicly listed. You might also find what you’re looking for in the user community or through distributors that carry the module. Good luck!
