Where to Find Missing EDS Files in RSLinx

Question:

I initially believed that a yellow question mark indicated a missing EDS file. However, after checking the properties, I found that there is a generic EDS file available. Despite searching extensively, I have been unable to locate a specific EDS file for this module. I have been unable to find any EDS files available for download on the Rockwell Automation website. Where can I find these files?

Top Replies

To easily upload your Eds, simply right-click on the module and follow the prompts that most modules provide for direct uploading. This convenient feature saves you time and effort when managing your content.

Have you downloaded the AOP software yet?

I am unable to find the expected option when I right-click. Is there an EDS file available for Linx to use with AOP?

TheWaterboy noted that the right-click option does not appear as expected. This issue pertains to Linx; does AOP have the necessary EDS file? Click to expand for more information. Agreed.

I should have realized that, but I trusted my instincts instead of relying on logic.

You're correct that a yellow question mark usually indicates a missing EDS file. However, it's also possible for it to signify an unrecognized device or improperly installed EDS file - even if a generic one is present. If you've already looked over the Rockwell Automation website with no luck, I'd suggest reaching out directly to their customer support. They have been incredibly helpful in my past experiences and should be able to provide a specific EDS file for your module or point you in the right direction.

I sympathize with your dilemma; navigating these technical issues can be quite challenging. It's possible that the specific EDS file for your module might not be listed under the typical Rockwell Automation directories. Have you tried contacting their customer service directly for assistance? Alternatively, you might find it on third-party websites that host such files, although I'd generally advise caution with those as they may not always be safe or reliable.

I faced the same issue some time ago and reached out to Rockwell Automation directly for the specific EDS files. Their customer service is quite responsive and they sent me the files I needed through email. I would recommend getting in touch with them directly. Additionally, you might want to check the additional CD/DVD provided with the module. Sometimes manufacturers include EDS files there.
