Windows 11 Compatibility with Studio 5000 and System Platform 2023: Insights Needed

Question:

Hello everyone! I recently received two brand new Dell desktops from a client for software installation on a project. One will be used for a standalone InTouch installation with SP2023, while the other is for Studio 5000 and several other programs. Our original plan was to use V34 firmware on Logix Designer as V35 wasn't officially supported with System Platform 2023 in the past. Despite our specific request for Windows 10 Ent to be installed, the client did not comply. I anticipate potential issues with outdated software, particularly with Studio 5000 and SP23 compatibility. Before returning the desktop, I am curious if anyone has experience using Windows 11 with Studio and/or SP2023. Your insights would be greatly appreciated as I seek clarity on this matter. Thank you.

While I can't vouch for System Platform, I can confirm that I've successfully installed and operated all versions of Logix, from V10 to V35, on Windows 11 ARM. While some versions required some troubleshooting, I recall that V34 and V35 were particularly smooth and trouble-free to set up.

I am currently unable to check as I have unplugged it, but I believe the operating system is restricted to Windows 11 Pro X64. I came across a few discussions about Windows 11 and was curious about the ARM compatibility. After researching, I noticed that Aveva includes Windows 11 in its list of supported OSs. However, running it on Windows 10 Enterprise has been challenging, and I am hesitant to encounter any issues on site. Although Rockwell does not support Windows 11, it would be less problematic if it does not work than the main screen. The main issue is that Studio 5000 will be installed on the engineering station along with other software that currently requires Windows 7 or even Windows XP compatibility mode to function properly. Unfortunately, I am unsure how to address this. I am also uncertain if there is a way to downgrade from Windows 11 to Windows 10 with a fresh out-of-the-box installation. In the past, I used to rebuild PCs for the enjoyment of it using a DVD (or CD?) copy of Windows 7 or XP, but now it feels mundane.

Rockwell software is optimized for x64 architecture, making it compatible with ARM through emulation. The compatibility of ARM with x64 ensures that software will function seamlessly across different platforms.

Hi there! I've had some experience working with a similar setup. The main concern that may arise with running Studio 5000 and SP2023 on Windows 11 would be the compatibility, especially considering that these softwares were primarily designed to work with Windows 10. Nonetheless, you might still get it to function decently on Windows 11, albeit with some potential hitches. I'd recommend running these programs in a compatibility mode, as this has helped me overcome several issues with older software on newer systems. Be prepared for some time-consuming testing and trouble-shooting, though. Alternatively, you could consider virtual machine deployment with Windows 10 environment for these programming efforts. It would be more reliable and reduce potential conflicts.

Hey there! I've been working with Studio 5000 and System Platform 2023 on a Windows 11 system recently. Although, at first, I was also somewhat apprehensive about possible compatibility issues, things have been running surprisingly well. Studio 5000 doesn't show any difficulties and for SP2023, there's a patch you can download from the official website that resolves any nagging issues with Windows 11. So, you might want to give that a try before deciding to return the desktop. You should definitely double-check your specific needs and configurations, but in my experience, the transition to Windows 11 was smoother than I would've imagined.

I can see why you'd be concerned about compatibility, especially given the switch from Win 10 to 11. I have had some experience working with Studio 5000 and SP23 on Windows 11 and it's been fairly stable, though I did encounter a few minor issues. These were primarily related to permissions and certain legacy functions not being fully supported. In your situation, I'd recommend running a detailed compatibility check or consider running a virtual machine with Windows 10. There might still be some unforeseen glitches, but they're typically manageable with patches or software updates. Remember, every system behaves differently, so your mileage may vary!

I recently navigated a similar situation with Windows 11, Studio 5000, and SP2023. For the most part, it was a smooth operation, but a few small hiccups occurred. A critical point of consideration is that Windows 11 tends to be a bit more stringent when it comes to driver signatures and will decline some drivers that would have been okay on Windows 10. So, you'll want to ensure all your drivers are up to date and correctly signed. Another thing to note is that while Studio 5000 does function on Windows 11, it seems to run a bit slower and requires slightly more system resources than on Windows 10. If you can, I'd still recommend getting the client to provide a machine on Windows 10 Enterprise for optimal performance with your planned setup.

Hey there! I understand your concerns about compatibility, especially with the mix of software versions and the newer Windows 11. While I haven’t personally used Studio 5000 or System Platform 2023 with Windows 11, I’ve heard from others that certain applications can work with it if they’ve been updated for the latest OS. That said, it can be hit or miss, especially if you’re running older firmware like V34. I’d recommend checking the official documentation or forums for any specific notes on compatibility, as there may be workarounds or patches available. Good luck, and let us know if you find a solution!
